Yoga & Reiki @ The Therapy Rooms

Reiki healing with Alison

Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.  This therapy is undertaken fully clothed and involves either the therapists held directly onto the clients body in specific places or held just above the client. You can find more information about Reiki here

One Sunday each month Alison will undertake Reiki in East Kilbride - dates will be added here and also on Alisons FB page.

Yoga moments with Leah

I began the practice and study of yoga in 2002 right after my second pregnancy, as an aid to my escalating hypertension, both of my children were born prematurely due to pre-eclampsia.

Unconventionally, I began with breathing techniques and found, recommended by my then GP, a very traditional and principled Hatha yoga teacher after which the yoga breathing technique succeeded and my hypertension was under control. I became a serious practitioner and believe in correct alignment discipline.

When my family and I moved here to Scotland from Hong Kong in 2005 it took me a while to find a yoga teacher who understood my well being. I've avoided many yoga classes held in gyms and even health centres as I find most of the classes are aimed towards losing weight and fitness. Finally after over a year of searching, I found the right teacher for me, and by then I had made my decision to train to become a yoga teacher.

I received my Yoga teaching diploma from Yoga Scotland, Edinburgh. I've been teaching yoga mostly for beginners since 2011 and then all levels 2014. I am also an active volunteer teaching Chair Yoga to elderly people in old folks homes. For five years until 2015 I was a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Group) committee member, Executive Committee member and Treasurer of the Yoga Scotland Organization.

I aim to help people slowly journey towards yoga, develop yoga in a more therapeutic practice integrating mobility, stability and stretch within gentle yoga flow sequences. My style of yoga teaching is slow, analytical, static, strong, gentle yet powerful and that with strength and correct alignment, you will learn how to stretch without compromising the joints. All practice is based on Traditional Hatha Yoga but adapted for our 21st century bodies and strengths.
